Data permissions
Data permissions control access to time series data sources and are centrally managed by System administrators. They define who can view and work with data from specific sources.
How It Affects Users
If a user is not granted data permission, the data source will not be visible or usable anywhere in the application. This includes dashboards, views, or any other work items that rely on that source.
Assignment Scope
Permissions are assigned per user, group, or client and can apply to a specific data source or to all available sources. Without the proper permission, users are effectively blocked from interacting with data from those sources.
Interaction between Data Permissions and Work Item Permissions
If a user does not have data permission for a specific time series data source, they cannot use components from that source in any work item, regardless of whether they have permission on the work item itself.
For example, a user may have access to a view, but if that view includes components from a data source they cannot access, the view will not function as intended. The user will encounter empty results or error messages because the underlying data is unavailable.
In essence, data permissions act as a prerequisite: without access to the data source, permissions on views, dashboards, or other work items are meaningless if those items rely on restricted data.
Note
Effective collaboration and sharing in the platform depend on a combination of data permissions, work item permissions, and asset permissions all being properly aligned.
